Coronation Street’s Kate Connor is set to have a new romance – but she won’t be cosying up to Sophie Webster, so who will she be hooking up with?

Actress Faye Brooks revealed at the National Television Awards that her character’s due a new love interest after her last engagement to crazy Caz ended in the latter’s arrest.

And she also let slip that her new lover is already living on the cobbles.

Naturally, our thoughts turned straight to Sophie Webster. Kate and Sophie have always had a spark and have even shared a kiss before.

And it’s clear there’s more to their relationship than just good friends. Fans have even given them their own nickname – ‘Kophie’, which is a sure bet that these two are destined to be together.

But Faye revealed when speaking to Digital Spy:

“There’s a new love interest for Kate Connor this year. Brand new,” she teased. “It’s not Sophie Webster, that’s what I can say!”

What?!

“Sophie is my friend! I think it’ll be nice for the audience to be teased with, ‘Will there ever be a Kophie?'”

But with Faye’s revelation the show aren’t bringing in a new actor to play her girlfriend, that means the person in question is already living in Weatherfield. Who could it be?

Kate’s track record with women isn’t the best. She was engaged to controlling Caz who went on to fake her own death and frame Maria for it.

Kate was the one who caught Caz out and the last we saw of her she was being carted away by the cops.

So she deserves to be lucky in love at last. But if not with Sophie, then who with?

We’re certainly going to be seeing a lot more of Kate on our screens after her win at the NTAs.

The actress took home the viewer-voted prize for Best Newcomer, and took to Corrie’s Twitter to thank her fans.

She also told Digital Spy after receiving the gong that she’d asked new boss Kate Oates for more storylines.

“I told her, ‘throw me in there’. Kate said ‘I want blood, sweat and tears’, and I was like ‘done, bring it on’.”

Looks like a drama-filled year ahead for Ms Connor then.
