James Martin speaks out about why he REALLY quit Saturday Kitchen

The chef has a whole new perspective on life now

James Martin is notorious for keeping his private life under wraps.

But the TV chef has now opened up about why he quit his Saturday morning show last year after a decade.

His decision, it turns out, actually came after the sudden death of a complete stranger.

The shocking moment made James reconsider his position on Saturday Kitchen.

There were countless rumours that he was leaving to become a Top Gear host, then it was because of budget cuts, so the truth will come as a surprise to many.

Explaining what had happened in that tragic moment during an interview on Good Morning Britain, the Yorkshireman said: “I was chatting to him and he stood up on stage and collapsed and passed away in front of me.”

That must have been horrendous!

James added: “That was just over a year ago and that was the decision to change.

“I looked back at all the work I’d done, I’d like four days off that year and had five days off the year before and I thought something’s got to change.

“And that was partly the reason why I gave up the Saturday Morning show.”

Looking shocked and taken aback, Piers said: “Good for you. There’s more important things in life than getting up early on a Saturday morning.”

James also revealed last year that he has been in a five-year relationship with PA Louise Davies.

Sweetly, he said: “For the first time in my life I’m content and happy.”

Hilariously, when talking about his exit from the show last year he said: “I genuinely said to my agent, ‘Stick it out there, but no one will be bothered,’ and next minute it was all over the papers. It was like One Direction splitting up.

“I didn’t think leaving Saturday Kitchen would be such a big deal.”

Well, we miss having you on our TV’s every Saturday, James!

However, he has an amazing new show out called French Adventure, which is on on ITV weekdays at 3pm.
