Great news for Great British Bake Off fans – Mary’s back!

The nation's favourite baking queen is back on the box

If your heart is still in pieces (or should that be slices?) over the whole Great British Bake Off channel change fiasco  fear not!

Sadly, Lady B hasn’t had a change of heart and decided to rejoin Paul Hollywood on the upcoming Channel 4 revamp of the ratings smasher.

No, we have even better news. Maz is set to front a whole new TV foody series for us all to fall in love with.

Auntie Beeb has just announced that the baking legend is to host a task six part series which will be comprised of all the very special ingredients that made GBBO so very popular – a geat big juicy dollop of Mary Berry, a sprinkling of stately homes and a tasty garnish of food history.

Secrets From Britain’s Great Houses will see Mary running around the UK visiting different grand residences to discover more about the culinary traditions within their historic walls.

She will reveal what really went on in the houses upstairs AND downstairs by meeting the present-day owners of the houses, have a poke around the kitchens, gardens and private rooms and create recipes inspired by each home’s cooking pasts. We’re licking our lips already!

The cake-baking supremo, who is the first of the former GBBO stars to announce a new project, admits she is raring to go with the new series. “I am so excited to be doing this new series with the BBC,” she gushed. “I have always had an enquiring mind so I know I will be inspired by the great houses we visit.”

Director of content at the BBC, Charlotte Moore is equally thrilled with the news that Mary is still sticking with the channel. “This series will be a real treat for BBC One viewers to go behind the scenes with Mary Berry and explore Britain’s great houses through her love of cooking.”
