She was way under-used

| Updated:

Let the campaign start here! We want Kim Tate back on Emmerdale.

When do we want her? Now!

Yes, soap fans are giddily hoping that actress Claire King will defect back to the soap that made her famous after she announced that she is quitting Coronation Street.

TV favourite Claire has been playing Erica Holroyd for three years but has decided it’s time to spread her wings and take off.

Erica will leave the show when she realises that Dev Alahan is taking her for granted and ends up being tempted by Kevin Webster.

She’s had a busy time of it on the cobbles having been involved with Nick Tilsley, losing a baby, acting as a cannabis dealer and then ending up in a troubled relationship with Dev.

However, fans reckon the Street’s scriptwriters did;t make the most of the talented actress.

And maybe that’s what Claire is thinking.

Talking about her decision to leave, she said: “It’s been a dream come true to tread those famous cobbles.

“I was only meant to stay for six weeks initially, so for Erica to be so popular that she stayed for three years and even worked in The Rovers was a real compliment to me as an actress.”

She added: “I’ve had such a great time with the cast and crew, so it’s fabulous that they have left the door open for Erica to return in the future – who knows what adventures she’ll be getting up to away from the Street – she’s certainly not boring!

“As for me, I’m ready for another challenge. I’m not leaving the screens anytime soon, so watch this space.”

Coronation Street’s executive producer, Kieron Roberts is sad to see her go and said: “Claire is a wonderful actress and we’ve loved having her on the show. She’s been a great addition to the cast and we wish her every success in the future.”

But this stunning news has left soap fans hoping she will now return to the Dales to play superb villain Kim Tate!

One fan wrote: “It wouldn’t be outside the realms of possibility for Claire to go back, especially given that the ownership of Home Farm will be up for grabs again soon” while another soap viewer added: “Her return would no doubt boost ratings as she’s probably the most popular character in Emmerdale history.”
