Emmerdale’s Emma WILL get her comeuppance thanks to Ashley video

It's about time

Emma Barton is FINALLY going to be caught out over what really happened to James Barton.

We were beginning to think Emmerdale had forgotten about the video recording of Ashley’s conversation with Emma shortly after the accident and have been wondering if it would ever come to light. But now boss Iain MacLoed has revealed it definitely will.

When Emma realised that Ashley had witnessed her pushing James off the bridge, she immediately panicked and knew she had to silence him. At the time, fans were worried ailing Ashley would become her next victim.

Turning up at his house, Emma came with baked goods and managed to get him alone. As she talked to him about James, she bewildered the vicar into remembering things differently than he actually did.

Knowing his brain was failing him, Emma took total advantage of Ashley and manipulated him into thinking he hadn’t seen her on the bridge that day at all.

But the whole thing was captured on Ashley’s video camera, and we knew (hoped) that wouldn’t be the end of it.

Frustratingly, Laurel smashed the camera, meaning Emma escaped justice again. But there’s always the memory card that’s lying around.

And with footage of Ashley saved to it, chances are the family will want to watch it back to help with their grief. Will they stumble on it and expose Emma?

Iain revealed at an Emmerdale press conference that they have remembered the video and it will come back to haunt Emma.

“We were so thrilled with ourselves that we came up with that device at the time.

“Normally in soap, you get about a year into a murder mystery and you realise that you need to invent some evidence, meaning you have to retcon its existence back into the show. But we very deliberately put that in there as an exploding bomb. It will prove to be significant.”

It’s about time she was caught out, she’s escaped justice for far too long. Last month viewers were thrilled when it seemed Faith Dingle had learned her secret and was going to make her pay.

But in a twist it was revealed Faith hadn’t heard the whole confession. And then when Emma found out something equally as incriminating about Faith, they agreed to keep each other’s secrets, leaving Emma in the clear once again.

Will Ashley do his final good deed from beyond the grave and put Emma behind bars for what she did?
