Emmerdale to kill off Emma Barton in dramatic summer storyline

Actress Gillian Kearney's said to be unhappy with the decision

Emmerdale are reportedly finally bringing Emma Barton to justice by killing her off over the summer.

But actress Gillian Kearney, who plays Emma, is said to be disappointed that they aren’t leaving the door open for a comeback.

Emma has caused havoc ever since her arrival in the Dales. Having been separated from her sons for years, it was revealed she had tried to kill Ross when he was a baby.

Despite the family giving her another chance, and ex-husband James Barton even proposing to her again, Emma has remained unhinged.

She has been fiercely jealous of Moira Dingle, who James was in love with, and eventually when she discovered James had kissed Moira, Emma kidnapped him and held him hostage Misery-style.

When he managed to escape, he fell to his death when Emma pushed him off a motorway bridge.

Ashley Thomas witnessed the whole thing and Emma then used his dementia to confuse him into believing he hadn’t seen her, but their conversation was caught on camera.

Arthur, Ashley’s son, has recently watched the footage, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll out Emma for her crimes.

Speaking to The Sun, a source at the show said: “The writers were looking for their big summer story and they decided Emma would be at the centre of it.

“They felt there had to be retribution for all the trouble she’s caused.”

If viewers thought she couldn’t get any worse, the insider also added: “They are going to be writing in more devious storylines for her and building her into a complete psycho.

“Gillian had a discussion to see if they would leave the door open for Emma, but they wanted a dramatic death.

“It’s put a few noses out of joint as there’s a feeling that the actors who put in the graft are not being recognised and either made to leave or killed off.”

Fans have been calling for her to go for a number of months now, as they’re sick of her getting away with all her wrong-doings.

It looks like they’re going to get their wish. But how will she meet her maker? Will it be a grisly end for the killer? And will she manage to strike again before she dies?

Last week it seemed like Emma was planning to kill Moira after she told Ross they’d get revenge and Moira would “never even see it coming”.

Will she get the chance? Or will Moira end up killing her in self-defence – she’s pretty handy with that shotgun, after all…
