EastEnders star reveals disappointment over character’s exit

Not happy with how his character was written out

Earlier this year we saw Lee Carter leave EastEnders thanks to his battle with severe depression.

The character, son of Mick and Linda Carter, contemplated taking his own life last Christmas before deciding to leave his wife Whitney.

The ex-soldier believed he wasn’t good enough for his wife, and that he had to leave the Square to try and deal with his demons.

Although his exit from the show was quite dramatic (and sad!), the actor who played Lee has now revealed he was disappointed with the way it played out.

Danny-Boy Hatchard said it was former producer Sean O’Connor who wrote the character out of the show the way he did.

Danny-Boy told The Sun: “He could have left a little more attention to detail. I feel it got a little brushed off.

“It was Sean’s decision and I had to respect that. But if I had written it, I’d have written it differently.”

This revelation comes after several rumours and allegations were made against ex-EastEnders producer O’Connor.

A spokesperson for the show was forced to deny recent rumours that Steve McFadden (who plays Phil Mitchell) had something to do with the producer’s departure.

The stories suggested that Sean was planning to kill off Billy Mitchell and Steve was refusing to return from his break if that were to happen.

It was speculated that drama ensued and O’Connor left.

However, a rep has said: “There is no truth to this story and these alleged conversations have never taken place.”

John Yorke has replaced O’Connor, and he hasn’t been able to escape rumours either.

There was recent speculation that Danny Dyer, who plays the Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, was worried the new boss would sack him.

Due to the whirlwind of media interest in Danny’s private life as of late, it was alleged that he was worried John Yorke would want him off the show.

But once again spokespeople for the show had to release a statement to put the rumours to rest.

The statement read: “There is absolutely no truth in this story. Danny is a consummate professional and these alleged conversations have never taken place.”

When will the false rumours stop?!
