Ken Barlow’s son Daniel revealed as his attacker on Coronation Street

Looks like Ken’s in a forgiving kind of mood

| Updated:

After the months of speculation about just who pushed Ken Barlow down the stairs, we now all know that it was his son Daniel.

But while we might have thought that would earn Daniel a one-way ticket to Weathy Jail (surely there’s a Weathy Jail, there’s a Weathy everything) and out of girlfriend Sinead’s life, it turns out things might not be that simple.

Because owing to some mitigating circumstances (massive parental rubbishness on Ken’s part etc), it looks like his dad – who doesn’t know yet that it was Daniel who pushed him – might well forgive his son.

Ken finds out early this week that it was Daniel who pushed him as he helps him decorate his house. But after an angry showdown over the paintbrushes, Ken will start to understand why his son did it.

“All of Ken’s paternal feelings come out,” Corrie Super-Boss Kate Oates told The Mirror.

“That is the only way we could pave the way for forgiveness quite so quickly for Ken and Daniel.”

Meanwhile Ken’s grandson Adam is probably feeling pretty smug, as Ken initially suspected him and now he’s in the clear.

Another person who is relieved that the secret is out is actor Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel.

“I have known from the start but I had to keep it secret from the rest of the cast,” he told The Mirror. “I haven’t told anyone, even my nan, she found out when she watched it.”

And Rob was pleased with the huge storyline.

“It is an end of boyhood thing,” he explained. “Daniel is petulant and moody. It came across in the script, I understood why he was doing something.”

Daniel is Ken’s son by former Corrie resident and one of Ken’s approximately 548 cobbles girlfriends, Denise Osbourne. Denise walked out on Daniel and until recently, he didn’t have much of a relationship with his dad either.

Forgiveness is great, Ken, but when you’re decorating that house with Daniel, it might be an idea not to climb any ladders to do the skirting boards. Just a thought.
