Corrie fans in tears as Bethany opens up about “painful” hour-long rape ordeal

She finally told Craig that cop Neil had abused her

Last night’s episode of Corrie had us gripped, as Bethany Platt broke the news to police rookie Craig Tinker that his boss, Neil, had raped her at a party.

The fresh-faced cop had spotted Neil at the Platts, but on questioning his superior about his motives he was told to mind his own business. So Craig popped round himself, and that’s when Bethany confessed all, sobbing as she did so.

Following the tense episode, Corrie fans took to Twitter to express their admiration for the actress’s performance.

And some admitted the episode had brought them to tears.

One fan tweeted: “My heart just shattered into 1000 pieces and omg lucy is such a credit to coronation street!! Couldn’t be any prouder of her rn!!”

Another added: “Wow, amazing acting from on ! Sobbing.”

And a third chipped in with: “Heartbreaking. She plays this part sooo well!!! #respect”

The Bethany Platt grooming story has seen ratings soar for the ITV soap, though Blackpool-born Lucy, 21, has admitted that the role has taken its toll on her.

In an interview with The Mirror last month, she spoke of the aftermath of the Manchester bombing, and revealed: “I went to St Ann’s Square to put some flowers down at the memorial, and somebody tapped me on the shoulder.

“She said, ‘Can I whisper something to you?’ She was about 60.

“I thought she was going to say, ‘I really like Corrie.’ But she said, ‘I was sexually abused by my dad when I was younger.’ She got upset, then told me she really appreciated what I’d done.”

For his part, Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker, was equally generous in his admiration for Lucy.

The 18-year-old tweeted: “Thank you for all the comments regards Corrie, @lufallon is a star. #Proud.”

Now we’ll have to wait and see what action Craig decides to take.

He did vow to shop his boss, only for Bethany to discourage him on the grounds that Neil had threatened her mum and baby brother.

But with Bethany’s ordeal rumoured to be finally ending soon, something’s got to give…
