Soaps these days try their hardest to reflect the world we live in, and Corrie has recently presented us with sex abuse victims and all manner of hard-hitting storylines.
But it also presents viewers with a varied array of characters from all walks of life; different sexualities and cultural backgrounds.
Now the show is welcoming its second disabled actor on to the show.
This week Melissa Johns – who has been campaigning for years to break down barriers so that more disabled actors can appear on screen and stage – was spotted on set filming scenes for upcoming episodes of the soap.
Although no details have been released just yet, those watching filming believe her character name will be Imogen.

The scenes being shot in the centre of Manchester were set in a nightclub and featured Kate Connor, Luke Britton, Alya Nazir and Gary Windass.
This isn’t Melissa’s first TV role.
Eagle-eyed viewers may recognise the blonde beauty from shows such as Doctors and The Interceptor.
Speaking in her witty online profile she has opened up about her disability and how she hasn’t let it stop from her achieving her goals.
“I was lucky enough to be born with only one arm so I get to enjoy half price manicures and can afford to lose the ‘other glove’.”
That humour should mean she slots right in on the cobbles!
On a more serious note, she said: “I, like many disabled actors, am continuously fighting to change the way disability is seen in this industry.
“For me, having a disability has never been a disadvantage. Unless I’m trying to cut steak or tie up my hair.
“For me it’s about experiencing situations differently to people without disabilities and therefore having a different take on the world.
“It’s about showing that talented disabled performers can be raw, gritty, vulnerable, beautiful, sexy, real and it coming from a very personal and unique place.
“So its not a disadvantage. It’s an ability to see things from a completely different angle and take on characters in different way.”
Cherylee Houston – who suffers from a degenerative tissue disorder and is often in a wheelchair – plays Izzy Armstrong and is a regular on the cobbles.
In an interview from 2013, Melissa praised her parents for not letting her disability hamper her abilities and for encouraging her to do what she wanted.
“There was never a ‘you can’t do that’ attitude in our house,” she said.
“Mum has always thrown me in at the deep end and has never, ever stopped me doing things.”
