Coronation Street SPOILER: Robert and Michelle – it’s on!

Show boss has revealed all about the pair's future...

It’s the romance that’s been on the cards for months and it looks like Corrie’s Robert Preston and Michelle Connor WILL get together.

Producer Kate Oates has opened up about what we can expect to see from the couple – and whether it will finally bring some happiness for Michelle.

The landlady has had a horrendous start to the year after tragically losing her baby, Ruairi, at 23 weeks, and then discovering husband Steve McDonald had secretly fathered another child with her friend Leanne Battersby.

Through it all, Robert has been standing beside Michelle, helping her battle the most difficult days of her life.

And all-the-while, he’s been harbouring his own feelings for her.

He had confessed he was in love with her shortly before she went into labour, but she rebuffed his advances.

When he rescued her from a suicide attempt, she tried to kiss him, but he gently knocked her back, knowing it wasn’t right to take advantage of her vulnerable state of mind.

But given how strong his feelings are, would he be able to resist her again?

Having dumped Steve and angrily demanded a divorce, Michelle’s off to spend a few days with best friend Carla Connor to clear her head.

However speaking about what will happen on Michelle’s return, Oates told Soaplife: “I rather like Michelle with Robert.

“He hasn’t put a foot wrong – and he’s done the right thing by Michelle and not made a move on her.

“In fact, he’s almost apologetic for having feelings for her. I find that kind of unselfishness refreshing in soap.”

So as the lady in charge, we’d say she’s probably going to get her way and Robert and Michelle will become a couple.

But fans of the couple be warned: it won’t run smoothly when they do get together.

“It won’t all be hearts and flowers for this pair,” Kate added.

“Robert’s an alpha male and tougher than Steve. Michelle shouldn’t expect that his very deep feelings for her will mean she can push him around.”

Before she gets together with Robert though, the grieving mum’s set to make an ill-advised pass at Nick.

Desperate for revenge on both Leanne and Steve, and despite Robert’s warnings it’s a really bad idea, Michelle moves in for the kill. Will he accept her advances though?

We just hope she finds some happiness somewhere, she really deserves it.
