Coronation Street SPOILER: Bethany WILL have her day in court

Will it be enough to put Nathan away?

Hey Corrie fans, we have some good news!

The controversial and rather unpleasant – albeit incredibly gripping – grooming storyline is coming to an end.

But we still have a few more months to endure before everything is finally sewn up.

This autumn, evil Nathan Curtis’s fate will be decided during an emotional courtroom drama.

Bethany Platt has finally realised that all this time Nathan has been selling her for sex to other men and doesn’t actually love her.

Now she is intent on having him punished for having taken advantage of her.

“Bethany is asked to give evidence during the trial via video link so she doesn’t have to face them,” a source told the Mirror.

“But she still finds it a huge and emotional thing to do after believing for so long he loved her.

“Her evidence and whether she can cope is crucial to whether Nathan ends up in prison.”

Corrie producer Kate Oates has suggested that Bethany will finally get her happy ending after all these months of emotional turmoil.

It’s believed that the positive outcome is to help inspire more girls going through a similar experience the confidence to speak out without fear.

“I definitely want to keep Lucy central to the show, as she has shone through this and Tina O’Brien has just been amazing too,” Kate has said

“We have some plans. What is nice about where this storyline goes is that when the scales do fall from Bethany’s eyes, and she does realise it’s not right, she takes some power back.

“We see Bethany being active in saving herself rather than just being told. It’s a story for feminists – I really wanted her to take some of that power back.”

Although the storyline has been criticised for being so sleazy, the show’s producers have worked closely with the NSPCC to ensure the story is rooted in reality.

The charity even put the show’s writers in touch with a survivor of child grooming who gave them a great steer on how she was groomed from the age of just 10.

In last week’s Corrie, viewers watched Bethany narrowly escape being sold and sent to Belgium by Nathan.

And now they can’t wait of the evil so-and-so to get his just desserts.

However, Chris Harper who plays Nathan says we will see him punished in the appropriate way and not getting bashed by angry residents.

“People talk about street justice but that’s not the message we’re trying to get across.

“What’s happening with the independent enquiry into child sex abuse through the Truth Project is that there’s a real initiative to start looking at how institutions like the police, social services and schools look after people who have suffered from abuse.

“It’s going to be through that journey that we will really see Nathan suffer, we don’t need to see him beaten up, everyone wants to beat him up but that doesn’t achieve anything.

“We need to see the law come down on him like a tonne of bricks and that’s what we’re going to see.”
