Coronation Street pay tribute to superfan Martyn Hett

Martyn was one of the victims of Monday's Manchester tragedy

Coronation Street has paid tribute to show superfan Martyn Hett who died in the Manchester terror attack on Monday night.

During Wednesday night’s episode they also sent a message to all the victims of the bombing that happened at an Ariana Grande concert leaving 22 people dead and 59 with life-threatening injuries.

The ITV soap, which is set in Manchester, posted a photograph of candles and flowers laid out in a makeshift memorial as the instalment came to an end.

A message along the bottom read: “We Stand Together.”

Corrie viewers said on social media that they were touched by the “lovely tribute”.

Martyn, 29, was a huge fan of Corrie, and had also won Come Dine With Me.

Coronation Street posted onto their Twitter page a message to his family and friends.

They have subsequently revealed they are planning to dedicate a bench to him, and all the other victims of the attack, on the Coronation Street set.

Martyn had also appeared on Tattoo Fixers and was perhaps most well-known for his massive leg tattoo of show icon Deidre Barlow.

Martyn was a huge fan of Mariah Carey and had written a piece for the Manchester Evening News ahead of her MEN show last year.

Since hearing the news Mariah has posted to her Instagram account saying she is “devastated” to learn of his passing.

Corrie cast members previously spoke of their upset after the attack on Monday.

The soap’s official Twitter account led the tributes with a post that read: “We love Manchester, it is our home. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by last night’s tragic events.”

Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster, wrote on social media that she was “heartbroken and devastated”.

Brooke had rushed to the scene of the attack on Monday night to help a friend home and had posted that it was something “no child should have had to witness”.

Eva Price actress Catherine Tyldesley tweeted: “My beautiful home town, full of beautiful, innocent people. This morning my heart is broken … #RIP and love to victims and families.”

Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, said he could not “comprehend” the news.

Former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan tweeted: “Horrendous news to wake upto … My heart goes out to everyone who has been effected (sic) by this terrible tragedy … I’m in shock. #Manchester.”
