Coronation Street legend rumoured to be making a big return

Very familiar face could be back for autumn

We love a soap character comeback – especially when it’s a true veteran.

And it doesn’t get much more legendary than Emily Bishop.

Up until her departure from the cobbles in 2015, actress Eileen Derbyshire had been playing her for a mammoth 55 years, making her the longest-serving female on the show.

The 86-year-old left in November of that year, originally for a six-month break, but this was subsequently extended.

Now, it’s being reported she will return to Weatherfield this autumn.

A source has told The Sun: “She’s on a break and the door is open. There hasn’t been any contact from Eileen saying she intends to leave.”

A further source discussed Eileen’s absence from the soap with The Sun last year, explaining: “Eileen’s family is her absolute priority, and she has devoted herself to them since deciding on her break last November.

“Of course, as far as the bosses are concerned, there will always be a place for her on the show.”

Devout Christian Emily left Coronation Street to join her nephew Spider in Peru. We do hope she brings him back with her. The former hippy dated Toyah Battersby and, with her now back, this could make for a very interesting dynamic!

Eileen’s return is not the only one rumoured.

Many fans of the soap are expecting to see Ken Barlow’s former mistress Denise Osbourne back soon.

Their son Daniel is, of course, currently living in Weatherfield and has revealed that his mother basically vanished into thin air.

Actress Denise Black – who played the gobby hairdresser – left her role as Joanie in Emmerdale earlier this  year, paving the way for a Corrie comeback!
