Jamie Oliver eyes role in EastEnders to run a kebab shop

Will he be rivalling Ian Beale's restaurant?

He’s best known for running successful restaurants and taking on the government for healthy eating in schools, but now Jamie Oliver has a new career goal – a part in EastEnders.

The 41-year old chef thinks he’d be the perfect person to run a kebab shop down Walford way – best not tell local chip shop owner Ian Beale he’s got competition!

Speaking at the launch of his new restaurant, Barbecoa, in London, he said to The Sun:

“Do they need a kebab shop?

“I would run the kebab shop heavy on the chilli all night long.”

He might just be joking, but he did add:

“Seriously, nobody has ever asked me, but can you get me the job?

With McClunkey’s fried chicken shop, Beales restaurant, and the chippy the main eateries on the Square, especially now evil Aunt Babe has been kicked out of her role as The Vic’s chef and her replacements are struggling to make a cheese sandwich, we reckon Jamie would do great business.

He might be a bit too busy to run it properly at the moment though, after revealing his hit show Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast has been recommissioned for 12 episodes.

“We are really happy about that,” he told The Sun. “I’ve never done a returnable series. We’re in our seventh series, so in a 20 year career it’s very new to me.”

He also teased another “secret” project he’s working on involving members of the public.

Walford might just have to wait for its gourmet kebabs then!

Stars seem to be queuing up to land a role in the London-based soap at the moment after The Jump star and former Olympian Sir Bradley Wiggins revealed he’d been offered a part a few years ago and would now be keen to take them up on their offer.

Speaking to The Daily Star, he said:

“I’d like a an acting role.

“I got asked to be in EastEnders. A lot of things like that in the past I’ve turned down because I just didn’t have time.

“But now I’ve got time on my hands, I can do all those sorts of things”

Wiggo and Jamie in Walford? We’re up for it!
