Broadchurch actor hints there might be more than one attacker

We can't keep up

| Updated:

It’s the penultimate episode of Broadchurch tonight and we’re getting closer to finding out who raped Trish Winterman.

And now actor Mark Bazeley, who plays Jim Atwood, has let slip there’s a chance there’s more than one attacker at work.

Appearing on This Morning alongside hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, Mark dropped a massive clue as to who really did it.

His own character is one of the names currently in the frame.

Trish was raped at her friend Cath’s 50th birthday party and the list of suspects is long. As the series has gone on, more victims have come forward, meaning DI Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) are hunting for a serial rapist.

Lenny Henry’s character, Ed Burnett, is currently being held in custody for the attack. DNA evidence has revealed Jim slept with Trish the morning of the party – but did he rape her?

Speaking to Eamonn and Ruth about whether the culprit knew they were going to be the rapist, he said:

“I think the person or persons who have done the deed are forewarned simply because of the nature of the show.”

Hold on – what does he mean, “persons” – does he know that there’s more than one attacker at work?

Viewers on Twitter certainly seem to think so, and have immediately jumped on his words.

As fans continue to try and second guess the writers, Mark also hinted that could be a fruitless task:

“I think that’s to the writer’s credit. What he does is seduce you to think it must be someone, and then he just pulls the rug!”

But Twitter users certainly have one rather disturbing theory at work – that Ellie’s son, Tom, is behind the vicious attack.

This would be a shocking outcome to say the least. In the first series Ellie’s husband left the town stunned when he murdered Danny Latimer, and now her son could be behind one of the most terrible crimes he could ever commit.

Surely they wouldn’t do that to poor, unsuspecting Ellie… would they?
