Award-winning drama The Night Manager is heading back to the small screen for a second series.
Director Susanne Bier tells Broadcast a script, inspired by John le Carre’s 1993 novel, is “slowly being developed”.
The Night Manager was based on le Carre’s book, but he did not write a sequel.

Bier’s acclaimed drama featured Tom Hiddleston as a charismatic secret agent charged with uncovering a billionaire arms dealer’s crimes.
Hiddleston and his cast mates Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman all won Golden Globes for their work in January, while Bier picked up an Emmy Award.
The director suggests her three stars are keen to come back for more, telling Broadcast:
“We all very much want to do a season two, but the thing we absolutely do not want is to do something that does not live up to the level of season one. That would be a really bad idea.”
Colman previously revealed that she and her castmates would agree to reprise their roles for a second series, telling Deadline Hollywood:
“You’d have to be a complete idiot to say no.
“I think that if they called we’d all say yes. But I don’t know. I haven’t heard yet if they’re doing this or not.”

Speaking about the prospect of a follow-up season last year, Hiddleston said it would be up to Le Carre to create a further storyline for his characters.
“Truthfully, I think it is still in the lap of Le Carre himself,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
“I think we’re all aware that there is an appetite for more, but it really lies with the author, as it should, and if he can see a way for them to continue in a framework that fits his original conception.”
