Big name comedy star set to join Coronation Street

He's got a 20 episode stint

TV funnyman Vic Reeves has landed a role in Coronation Street.

It’s said to be a lifelong dream for the 58-year-old, whose real name is Jim Moir, as he is a huge fan of the ITV soap.

Vic’s set to play a TV presenter called Colin for a 20 episode run, and after apparently lobbying the soap for a job two years ago, it’s a dream come true.

Corrie confirmed the news on their Twitter page earlier today.

The Shooting Stars fave pitched an idea that he could turn up as the long-lost son of Norris Cole in 2015, but show bosses never went with the idea.

However now he seems to have won them over!

Colin apparently comes to the Street to see Norris and Mary after they win a place on his show, and it’s not long before he’s getting involved with the other residents of Weatherfield.

Speaking of his role, Jim said: “I’ve been a lifelong fan of Corrie. In fact, I think I saw the very first one. I try not to miss any episodes.

“I’m really looking forward to acting in Corrie. It’s a real thrill to be part of a British Institution.”

He’s due to start filming in July and will have a three month stint on the show.

Of the casting, Executive Producer Kieran Roberts, said:

“Jim is such a well-loved entertainer and a brilliant actor so we’re thrilled he’s joining the cast of Coronation Street.”

We’ll have to wait until the summer until we see what Colin’s going to get up to on screen, but paired with Norris and Mary, we think they’ll have us laughing all season long!
