Dancing on Ice returns in 2018 with new celebrity contestants and revamped format

ITV series will return in January next year

| Updated:

Being so rubbish at figure skating ourselves, we used to love watching hapless celebrities make complete fools of themselves on Dancing On Ice.

Who could forget Todd Carty careering off the rink in 2009, or Pamela Anderson’s embarrassing wardrobe malfunction in 2013?

So we were gutted when ITV announced that the popular show was finishing after the 2014 series.

Well, it’s due to return to our screens in January 2018, and if photos printed by the The Sun on Saturday are anything to go by, we might have a good idea who the first three contestants are.

The pics showed celebrity psychic Sally Morgan, 65, rugby player Max Evans, 33, and Coronation Street star Anthony Cotton, 41, training at an unidentified ice rink.

According to the report, all three did fairly well, although there was a moment when Cotton almost lost his balance while trying an ambitious lunge move.

One step at a time, Anthony, one step at a time.

But before you head to the bookies to place your bets on which of them might do well in the tenth series, it’s worth bearing in mind that producers are said to be trialling around 50 potential contestants before deciding on their final line-up.

Other names being bandied about include Alex Gerrard, 34, and Corrie actresses Katie McGlynn, 23, and Brooke Vincent, 25.

Former Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton has also expressed her desire to appear on the show.

“Dancing On Ice would be my ultimate,” the 37-year-old told The Sun Online. “I’ve never done ice skating and I’ve never professionally been taught dancing … Let’s hope I can pull some strings.”

As for Torvill and Dean, the Olympic legends quit the show just before the show was axed from TV. But it seems that they’re back on board for what will be a revamped format.

“I love that it’s coming back,” Jane Torvill, 59, told The Sun. “It’s great news – I’m really looking forward to it.

“The show will definitely be refreshed but the basics will be the same; we will still be teaching celebrities how to skate.”

Though Alex Gerrard is rumoured to be appearing, Torvill revealed that she’d like to see Alex’s footballer husband Steven get his skates on.

“My son is a massive Steven Gerrard fan,” she said. “He wants [Gerrard] to do Dancing On Ice as he’s retired now.”

Now, that would be brilliant!
