Ant & Dec to team up with Dermot O’Leary to save failing ITV show

If these three can't save the programme, no one can!

Presenting duo Ant and Dec are the next big names to host ITV’s The Nightly Show.

The show has received poor ratings since it began earlier this month, but bosses are apparently hopeful it can be saved – with the right presenters.

Ant and Dec, two of the most popular faces on our screens, will front the show alongside Dermot O’Leary next week.

The comedy chat show has so far seen the likes of David Walliams, Davina McCall and John Bishop hosting, but it’s been slated by critics and abandoned by viewers.

Despite Davina, who was the latest celebrity to host the show, being praised by viewers for her enthusiastic performance, latest figures show it’s now drawing 200,000 fewer than the news in that slot.

Will the latest hosts be enough to assuage annoyed viewers? Some have been pretty vitriolic on Twitter…

One wrote: “#thenightlyshow is like the poundland version of the Ellen DeGeneres show.”

Another added: “I just don’t get why they think they have the right to move the 10 o’clock news for this absolute tripe #thenightlyshow.”

Signing Ant, Dec and Dermot is particularly great news for show bosses, as it was reported this week that Mel and Sue pulled out at the eleventh hour.

An ITV source told The Sun: “It looked as though it was all but finalised, but they never quite signed on the dotted line.

“Unfortunately the talks collapsed when they decided they couldn’t possibly make their diaries fit with ITV and have had to turn down the offer.”
