Olly Murs reveals feud with Simon Cowell: “I’m not sure we’re on talking terms”

This sounds awkward...

He’s been a contestant, a presenter and was almost a judge on this year’s The Voice.

But after turning Simon Cowell down on his offer to join the panel, Olly Murs has admitted he’s not sure the music mogul is speaking to him.

Speaking to The Mirror, the 34-year-old singer admitted things had been tense since he turned down the £3million contract.

He said: “I have so much respect for Simon and it was difficult to tell him no. I’m not sure we’re on talking terms.”

He added that he’s hoping they’ll get back to being mates at some point, adding: “I said to Simon, ‘It’s not a no forever’.”

Olly instead decided to stay on the The Voice, as a coach. He explained: “I felt I had such a great time on The Voice, why would I leave after one year? I felt I did an incredible job last year and I’m very proud of that. It was a good move.”

ITV recently confirmed that Olly – along with Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Will.i.am – will be returning as coaches for the new series of The Voice UK.

The series, which moved from BBC One to ITV in 2017, will return to screens early next year and Emma Willis will return as the show’s presenter.

The Essex lad has come a long way since his appearance on the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, where he came second.

He returned to the talent show in 2015, replacing Dermot O’Leary as a presenter, alongside Caroline Flack.

The pairing was not well-liked, and didn’t return the following year. Olly recently revealed how he saw a therapist after a series of embarrassing blunders live on air.

In particular, when he mixed up the judges’ scores and prematurely announced that contestant Monica Michael was going home – before the results of the public vote had been revealed.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, he said: “The papers didn’t laugh it off; they made a massive deal about it. The media attention, and the social media aspect, upset me the most.

“They really tried to take me to the cleaners. They tried to make me lose my job over a silly, small mistake. So that was something I needed to speak to a therapist about.”

Simon might not have liked hearing no, but it seems like Olly’s made the right decision. And isn’t Robbie Williams doing a great job in the hot seat?
