Louis Tomlinson shuts down Simon Cowell in live X Factor clash

Pair have a bust-up over song choice

X Factor’s Louis Tomlinson got the better of Simon Cowell as the pair clashed live on air.

The judges had a blazing row over which one of them chose the “perfect” song Say Something, by A Great Big World, for Brendan Murray.

Simon claimed credit but Louis was having none of it, and host Dermot O’Leary ended up congratulating the younger panellist for not letting his former mentor “rewrite history”.

“YES! we love sassy louis, louis who doesn’t take nonsense from simon and louis the best mentor ever!”

And a fourth viewer posted: “The thing that I’ve loved the most about #XFactor is Louis showing us just exactly how much he stands up to Simon and doesn’t take his nonsense.”

Praising Brendan during Big Band Week on Saturday night’s show, the One Direction singer said: “That was the perfect song for you, the perfect performance.”

Simon quickly piped up that he had in fact suggested the song.

But Louis replied: “I chose it actually, Simon. You certainly didn’t choose it.”

Looking aghast and still insisting it was his idea, Simon added: “I thought I chose it. You don’t remember me calling you suggesting that song?”

Louis told him: “No Simon. No, you certainly didn’t.”

Dermot said: “Well done, Louis, for not letting Simon rewrite history. Very impressive.”

* The X Factor is on ITV tonight at 8pm.
