Strictly’s Oti Mabuse addresses pay row among dancers claims

Dancers reportedly want higher wages

Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse has denied reports that there is a pay row among the show’s dancers.

Recent reports have alleged that the professional dancers have “come together” to ask BBC bosses to increase their salaries.

However, speaking to OK! Magazine, Oti has rubbished the claims joking that they don’t have time to be rowing behind-the-scenes.

She told the mag: “There is no pay row with any of the dancers. We don’t have time to be rowing, we’re too busy focusing on the competition!

“We are happy and very grateful to be on TV and have a job. We’re very lucky to be on Strictly and get whatever fee we do get.”

It comes after sources claimed last month that the Strictly professionals are coming together to demand pay rises.

The ballroom experts are said to be receiving £50,000 per series for the BBC competition while the show’s judges reportedly receive between £150,000 and £250K per series.

Oti isn’t the only dancer to speak about the dancer pay packets.

Brendan Cole – who left the show in January after starring in every series since the show started in 2004 – has previously been very vocal about the dancer money.

During an interview on Lorraine this week, Brendan admitted he asked bosses for more money.

Discussing the reports that the pros want higher wages, Brendan said: “That’s probably why I’m not there anymore, I was the one that said, this is what we want.

“I’m not sure they do want that. They get a good wage, I can’t imagine them complaining.”

TV presenter Susannah Constantine and her partner Anton du Beke were the first pairing to be voted off Strictly at the weekend.

Anton and Susannah faced Blue star Lee Ryan and his partner, Nadiya Bychkova, in the dance-off in Sunday night’s results show, after coming bottom of the leaderboard.

The judges chose unanimously to save Lee and Nadiya, which Susannah said was “the right choice”.
