Strictly’s Kate Silverton films herself on laughing gas after suffering rib injury

The newsreader has vowed to dance on tonight's show

Strictly Come Dancing star Kate Silverton has filmed herself breathing in gas-and-air pain relief after suffering an agonising rib injury in training.

The newsreader “stripped” the muscle from the bone but is seen giggling in the clip as the medication takes effect.

Despite the setback, the 48-year-old insists she will still perform the Argentine tango, which she calls her “best dance”, with professional partner Aljaž Škorjanec on tonight’s show.

Sharing the video on Twitter, Kate tells her 52,000 followers: “The last time I did this was in childbirth, which was really good. Actually I’ve forgotten how good it was.

“I’ve somehow stripped the muscle from my rib on my best dance, on my best dance.”

Pointing to the gas canister, she adds: “I am dancing tomorrow but this has been my saviour.”

Turning the camera to the medic, he jokes that she is “sucking the life out of” the pain relief.

He adds: “It’s nitrogen and oxygen which is used to relax the muscles, which is why Kate is on the floor at the moment and she’s constantly sucking on it like it’s a cigar.”

Kate then insists: “I will be dancing tomorrow if it’s the last thing I do.”

The journalist posted a second clip revealing that she was getting her fake tan done, despite still taking the gas and air, as Aljaž entered the room.

“The show is going on, I’m having a fake tan for tomorrow. This is how we roll. I am going to be dancing.”

Kate is one of the favourites to lift the Glitterball Trophy.
