Strictly’s Susannah Constantine is first out of the series

It was a tense dance-off

We’re only two weeks into this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing – but so far the drama is not disappointing.

And in a mail-biting first elimination, we said goodbye to Susannah Constantine.

She had a rocky debut last weekend, and Saturday night’s show – performing the foxtrot to Frank Sinatra’s They Can’t Take That Away From Me with her partner, Anton du Beke – also failed to impress.

In tonight’s show, the fashion journalist ended up in a dance off with Lee Ryan, and his partner Nadiya Bychkova. It was a shock for the the Blue star, who received a respectable 26 points for his Jive to Blue Suede Shoes by Elvis Presley.

The judges chose to save Lee, meaning Susannah was eliminated.

It followed a harsh Saturday night for the fashion journalist, who was awarded only 12 points from the judges – with Craig Revel-Horwood giving them only one point.

He told her: “Even the smoke couldn’t cover that complete dance disaster.”

Judge Bruno Tonioli added: “I’m stunned. I think, Anton, you could’ve got better movement out of a lamppost. You were just dragging her and she was trying desperately to catch up.”

Susannah was already bottom of the leaderboard after an unimpressive appearance last week, where the presenter wore a huge orange dress and pineapple headpiece.

Craig told her she looked like she was “staggering about lost and drunk at a party”.

Susanna, 56, hit back at the comments, saying: “I thought they were pretty fair and, you know, I would like a bit more.

“If someone is going to give a throwaway comment it would be quite nice to get some constructive advice afterwards. Otherwise it’s a bit pointless, isn’t it? Oh well, if I look like [I’m at] a drunken party, how can I improve, what can I do to not look like that?”

And despite leaving the show first Susanna told her fans, in an emotional video posted on Instagram last week, that she’d had a great time.

“I loved last night,” she said.

“Yeah we got a 12, but that’s better than an 11 isn’t it? And I had a ball, and I’m going to try harder next time. Just keep on dancing.”
