Strictly Come Dancing’s Danny John-Jules receives series’ first 10

This was unexpected!

| Updated:

Strictly saw its first ’10’ doled out this evening and it went to an unexpected recipient.

Going on the performances from previous weeks it was looking likely that either Ashley Roberts, Joe Sugg, Faye Tozer or Stacey Dooley would be awarded the top mark first.

But that accolade actually went to Danny John-Jules in week five of the competition.

The Red Dwarf star and partner Amy Dowden danced the Jive to Flip, Flop and Fly.

Impressed Darcey gave them the 10, while the other judges handed out nines.

Guest judge Alfonso Ribeiro – who was standing in for Bruno Tonioli – told them: “You came out, you had fun, that was flying right there.

“The feet were sharp, the energy was there.

“You got down into the floor, Mother Earth is where the power comes from, you used it that time, baby.”

Craig Revel Horwood was similarly effusive, saying: “I think that is a dance… for the final.”

Darcey told the couple: “I have to get up and applaud you, it was extraordinary.”

Shirley Ballas concluded: “You broke the seal today and you’re on your way up, that was absolutely amazing!”
