Strictly Come Dancing moved to earlier slot after ratings dip

Changes are being made

Strictly Come Dancing results show will be moved to an earlier slot on Sunday November 18 after ratings dipped at the weekend.

After an episode of the new series of Doctor Who, the dancing results show aired at 7:50pm on Sunday evening and ran until 8:30pm.

However, the episode saw an average of just under 9 million viewers which is around 200,000 below last week’s figures and 1.3 million down on last year.

According to the Radio Times, on November 18, the seventh episode of Doctor Who will air at 6:30pm and Strictly results show will begin at 7:20pm – shifted from the later time of 7:50pm in earlier weeks – until 8pm.

On Sunday night, viewers saw Ranj Singh get eliminated from the competition alongside pro partner Janette Manrara.

Judges opted to send the NHS doctor and This Morning star home after he ended up in the bottom two along with actor Charles Venn.

Craig Revel-Horwood, voted to save Ranj and Janette, but Darcey Bussell, Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli all voted to save Charles, making Dr Ranj the sixth celeb to leave this series with Janette.

The disappointed doctor said he was sad to be leaving after his samba with a Bonfire Night theme failed to impress the viewers at home.

He said: “I can’t express how much this has meant to me, I’ve done something I could only ever have dreamed of.”

Strictly Come Dancing dominated Saturday night viewing figures, boasting an average of 9.5 million viewers, the BBC said.

According to overnight figures, BBC One’s popular dancing series was the most-watched programme across all channels on TV on November 3, with a peak of 10.3 million viewers.

The Strictly leaderboard was topped by Ashley Roberts and Pasha Kovalev with a high score of 39 after impressing with a foxtrot.

Red Dwarf’s Danny John-Jules and Amy Dowden failed to impress with their quickstep, landing at the bottom of the Strictly leaderboard with a score of 22.

Meanwhile, BBC newsreader Kate Silverton tackled the series’ first Argentine tango, despite an injury during which she said she had “stripped” the muscle on her rib earlier in the week.
