Strictly’s Stacey Dooley denies claims she was a ‘diva’ on the show

She has responded to rumours

Strictly Come Dancing champion Stacey Dooley has slammed the claims she was a diva while working on the show.

Stacey, 31, who stormed to victory despite coming bottom of the judges leaderboard with professional partner Kevin Clifton, 36, had been dogged by rumours of difficult behaviour backstage.

However, according to The Sun, Stacey insisted she had no idea what had sparked the claims and instead said she wanted to “celebrate Kevin and I’s night”.

A source told the publication before the final: “Over the past few weeks Stacey has been quite difficult and it has resulted in crew being put off her.

“Some of them are quite glad that this weekend will be the last time they have to work with her.”

The investigative reporter admitted she was shocked at her win.

She said: “I wasn’t really entertaining the thought of winning. I didn’t think it was possible. It just shows that people at home are enjoying what we’re trying to do.

“You have to put the extra hours in if you’re not up to scratch with everyone else.”

Kevin, who was congratulated by his ex wife fellow professional dancer Karen Clifton straight after his win, also confessed he thought it would be his fifth final without a win.

He said: “We didn’t think we had a chance.

“After a slightly tough year I’ve had such a good time. I’ve loved Strictly. Stace has been a joy from day one.”

Fellow documentary maker Louis Theroux took to Twitter to congratulate Stacey on her win.

He wrote: “Congrats @staceydooley! Me next!” To which Stacey replied: “Louis. You waltzing in a sequin shirt would shut down the internet and sent the entire UK into complete euphoria. 2019 GIVE US WHAT WE ALL DESERVE.”

Stacey also revealed her boyfriend Sam Tucknott’s embarrassing moment at the final, tweeting: “Sam’s just told me he nearly fell off his chair and squashed Mary Berry, I would have gone from Strictly champ, to most hated women in Britain in record time.”

Kevin’s former Strictly partners also rushed to congratulate him on Twitter.

However, his former fellow Strictly pro James Jordan was less than impressed with the couple’s win.

Writing on Twitter about their show dance he complained “It was a complete mess and didn’t understand the beginning AT ALL. NOT GOOD EVEN FOR A NO DANCER.

“MMMMM I normally love Kevin’s Choreography but I just didn’t get this at all. A show dance for me should be full of lifts and an exciting mix of dances.”
