Giovanni Pernice speaks out on Shirley Ballas’s criticism of Faye Tozer

He wasn't too pleased

Giovanni Pernice thinks Shirley Ballas should have worded her criticism of Faye Tozer’s dancing skills differently on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 28-year-old pro dancer has responded after the Strictly head judge said she wanted to see a “change of dynamics” in the Steps singer’s dancing last weekend following the pair’s Jive routine.

Appearing on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two alongside Faye, Giovanni was asked if he “understood” why Shirley wanted their routines to be “more dynamic”.

He replied: “I do understand English, so yes I understand what she said.

“The thing is, I accept what she said because she is a brilliant dancer and a brilliant teacher.”

He then continued: “She is a Latin Queen. So we just accept everything that she said.

“I think there are other ways to say the comments.

“But you know, we are going to fly to Blackpool next week. We are there. We’re gonna be there fighting for our place.”

Despite Shirley’s criticism, Faye, 42 and Giovanni’s Jive on Saturday received nine points from notoriously harsh judge Craig Revel Horwood and a 10 from Bruno Tonioli.

Following Giovanni’s comments, show host Zoe Ball swiftly moved on, saying: “But you are amazing, the two of you, you are phenomenal.”

The Strictly stars are heading up to Blackpool this weekend to perform at the seaside resort’s Tower Ballroom.

Giovanni – who is currently rehearsing his upcoming dance routine with the ‘Tragedy’ hitmaker – added: “This is the most beautiful dance I have ever done on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.”

Last night’s show also saw pro dancer Amy Dowden break down in tears after celebrity partner Danny John-Jules “decided” not to appear.

The pair were eliminated on Sunday’s results show following a week of claims Danny had bullied Amy.

The Death in Paradise star then reportedly lashed out at the judges and co-stars after his exit.
