Gogglebox’s June Bernicoff to write book about life with late husband Leon

This sounds like a wonderful and heart-warming read

Gogglebox favourite June Bernicoff will celebrate the life of late husband Leon in a new memoir.

Fans of the Channel 4 show were heartbroken when Leon, 83, passed away in December following a short illness.

Now, June will recall their life and adventures in a new book called Leon and June: Our Story.

The book is scheduled for release in September.

June said: “I’m very flattered and pleased to have been asked to write this book. Leon often said he’d like to write our story so now I can do it for him.”

Leon and June: Our Story has been described as a “nostalgic memoir” by Blink Publishing.

It will chart the couple’s early romance, from when they met at a teacher training college, to their fight to marry despite their parents’ disapproval, having kids and finding fame on Gogglebox later in life.

Kelly Ellis, editorial director at Blink, said: “Leon and June have spent so much time in our living rooms and us in theirs that they feel like an extended part of the family.

“They represent everything I love about the British and I can only hope I’m as happy and loved by the time I reach their age.

“Their gentle ribbing of each other on Gogglebox and Leon’s cheeky jokes were always the perfect tonic on a Friday evening. Like the rest of the nation, I was bereft at the sad loss of Leon. He will be so sorely missed but we hope, together with the wonderful June, we can create a legacy for him that lives on with this incredibly moving book.

“It will be a true celebration of love, life and friendship as well as a touching tribute to a man who was loved by so many.”

Sounds like a wonderful read.

Leon, a retired teacher, and wife June joined the Channel 4 hit when it launched in 2013, and quickly became national treasures.

He was renowned for his no-nonsense opinion on celebrities and, most entertainingly, politicians.

The Bernicoffs, who were based in Liverpool, were married for over 60 years. Leon was 20 when he first met June, then 18, at a teacher training college dance; he has said it was love at first sight.
