Call The Midwife bosses hit back at claims Miranda Hart is ‘banned’ from returning

They called the reports "utter rubbish"

Call The Midwife bosses have hit back at “nonsense” claims that Miranda Hart has been banned from returning to the BBC show.

Miranda, who played midwife Camilla “Chummy” Browne, left the show in 2015 and it was said she would reprise her role in the period’s sixth series in 2017, however her character has remained off-screen.

Earlier this week, The Sun claimed the comedian was banned from rejoining the cast because she apparently let them down last minute last year.

After the reports emerged, the BBC press office released a statement, calling the reports “utter nonsense”.

Executive producer Dame Pippa Harris and series creator Heidi Thomas said: “The creative team at Call the Midwife remain extremely close to Miranda, and hugely value the contribution Chummy made to the first four series of the show.

“Sadly, the timing wasn’t right for her to return in 2016, but the door is always open.

“We would welcome her with open arms should she ever be free and want to come back to Nonnatus House .”

Fans rushed to comment on the post and expressed how much they’re missing Miranda on the show.

One person wrote: “I definitely miss Chummy. Glad to read that she will be welcomed back with open arms if she decides to rejoin.”

“Bring her back! Love her,” another said.

Miranda left the show in 2015 after series four, with her character leaving Nonnatus House to work elsewhere.

At the time the show confirmed Miranda would be returning for series six of the show, however Miranda was forced to pull out of filming shortly before it begun because of a scheduling conflict.

Meanwhile, the brand new series of the show is set to return early next year.

But before that, fans can look forward to the show’s Christmas special!

The new series will welcome four new cast members, including Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes.

Miriam will guest star in the series as forthright Sister Mildred, who will arrive unexpectedly at Nonnatus House with four Chinese orphans who fled China and were adopted in the UK as part of the World Refugee Camp.
