Christine Lampard apologises after Lorraine guest’s F-word blunder

Oops!

Christine Lampard was forced to issue a hasty apology on Thursday’s Lorraine after a guest turned the airwaves blue.

The pregnant presenter had been interviewing Madonna’s close friend and ex-backing dancer, Carlton Wilborn, via video link from Los Angeles to mark Madonna’s 60th birthday when he let slip the F-word.

He’d been describing watching Madonna getting her make-up done backstage at a venue when the naughty word came out.

Carlton had been sharing the moment he saw Madonna examine her make-up in the mirror and he suddenly saw the icon emerging, made up and ready for her audience.

“She was getting her make-up done, they were halfway through or three quarters through and she took a moment to check her face in the mirror mid-way through the make-up job… the way she, for three or four seconds studied her face. I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s the Madonna person’.

“Like, she became that in a minute… then she sat back in her chair and they kept doing her make-up. I was like, ‘Holy [bleep].’ It was amazing.”

Carlton immediately realised what he’d said and told Christine: “Sorry for the morning language, sorry, sorry, sorry!”

Christine said: “I was going to have to apologise for you, Carlton. We are all very excited about the birthday but maybe not quite that excited! So we’re terribly sorry if we’ve affected anyone’s breakfast this morning.”

Earlier in the interview, Carlton had spoken about the amount of effort that Madonna put into preparing for her tours.

“I think anybody who is running their company cares about things being done the right way,” he said.

“The training to get ready for those tours was quite intense, like a boot camp.

“A good nine weeks of intense training for the rehearsals and once we got on to doing all the tech and getting ready for the stage, we’d be doing ten to five, then two run throughs at night, finishing at midnight.

“It was a lot but she knew by the time we got to the stadium and had to shoot out energy to 80,000, 100,000 people, the energy it took to blast off that far and wide, it required you to have the stamina as if you’re doing two shows.

“So the fact we did rehearsals all day, then did a run through, then another run through in full make-up and costume for three solid weeks, we were ripe.”

Carlton also recalled the period he lived with Madonna, describing her as a “regular chick”.

He said: “She just happens to have a really cool, amazing team around her that’s helped her leverage what she wants to do. She kicks it like everybody else.”
