Chloe Madeley speaks out on royal wedding outfit controversy

She came under fire for having her shoulders out

Chloe Madeley has revealed why she broke protocol at the Royal Wedding last month.

The fitness model was lucky enough to get an invite to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials alongside her fiancé James Haskell.

But, she received backlash after baring her shoulders and showing a bit of cleavage in a risqué pink sundress inside St George’s Chapel.

FYI, the etiquette for weddings taking place in a church includes a strict dress code. For women it means ensuring their shoulders are covered, and that they are wearing a hat.

But the daughter of TV duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan chose to flout this tradition. Why? Because she accidentally forgot her jacket!

Speaking on Friday’s Lorraine, Chloe explained: “Of course traditionally you have to cover shoulders in church so I had a jacket with me.

“It was so hot and we were on a coach to the chapel and I thought, ‘I am overheating, I need to take this jacket off.'”

She continued: “”So James said we would do the walk and then before going into the church I can put it back on.”

But as the couple arrived at the chapel, Chloe revealed James didn’t have her jacket.

She added: “I thought, well I’m going in with my shoulders out but it’s OK, it’s not a big deal nobody will care.”

However, people did care and tweeted their shock at her attire on Twitter.

One person called her outfit “tasteless” and “unsuitable,” while another said she was “so inappropriately dressed” for the occasion.

Chloe told fill-in host Christine Lampard: “People definitely cared. They said you’re offending the house of the Lord.”

She said it was definitely a “lesson learnt”.

She added: “My shoulders will probably be out at my wedding because I don’t think I’ll do the long-sleeved thing.”

Chloe and James announced their engagement earlier this year.

Chloe revealed she won’t be marrying the rugby star for another two years because of the World Cup in 2019.

She said: “[The wedding] is so far away, we can’t do it until 2020 because the World Cup is in 2019 and is literally going to take up most of the year.”

Chloe added: “Even if James isn’t involved, half of the guest list will be. So we have to wait until 2020.

“Maybe we can save some money or change our minds about things, not each other.”
