Peter Andre discusses “strict” parenting rule for son Junior

His son wants to pursue a career in showbiz

Peter Andre has revealed his son Junior won’t stop talking about having a career in the spotlight.

During Monday’s Loose Women, the dad-of-four admitted he’s put his foot firmly down and wants Junior, 13, to finish school before the teenager thinks about following in his dad’s footsteps.

Peter, 45, said his “strict” parenting rule for Junior is inspired by his own dad, who told him he could only pursue a singing career if he got his education first.

While speaking about celebrating 25 years in showbiz, Peter opened up about his son’s future dreams.

He said: “Junior says that to me all the time, ‘I want to do this, I want to do that’.

“The one thing I use from what my dad taught me is you can do it once you’ve finished school. I’ve got to make him finish school, I think that’s so important.”

Pete continued: “Even when I got my recording contract, dad had to sign the contract because I wasn’t 18. He said, ‘you’re not allowed to do anything with him until he finishes school.’ I was so angry at my dad!”

When asked if he has any worries about Junior starting a career in the showbiz industry, Peter said: “Of course I do. We’re in a generation where kids see that prize at the top of the mountain but they don’t see the mountain.

“You have to climb that mountain and you’re going to fall a couple of times and when you finally get that prize, you hold on to it for dear life.”

Peter often shares videos to Instagram showing Junior rapping and singing.

Earlier this year, the star said although his son’s got talent he doesn’t want to “push him into anything”.

He wrote in his New! magazine column: “The kid’s got talent and he practises every day, but I don’t want to push him into anything because the more he practises the better he’s going to get.

“He needs to concentrate on school right now. I know I sound strict but it’s with the best intentions.”

He’s also dad to daughter Amelia, four, and one-year-old son Theo with his second wife Emily.

Peter’s has proven he’s a very protective father and said during an appearance on Lorraine last month, that he tries to keep Princess and Junior away from news stories and the internet, by getting them to focus on other things.

He said: “Obviously when it comes to kids and newspapers and the internet, I try my best to avoid them. Because there’s lots of stories about lots of different things.

“It’s just trying to get them to concentrate on other things because I think the internet is a bit of a scary place in general.”
