Coleen Nolan and estranged husband Ray friends again after split

The pair split in February

Coleen Nolan has revealed divorcing her estranged husband Ray Fensome has actually made them great friends.

The presenter, 53, and Ray announced their separation in February after 10 years of marriage.

During Tuesday’s Loose Women, Coleen opened up about her marriage, saying the last two years of them being together was “hard” and they “barely spoke” to each other.

Coleen said: “However [the split] ends, it’s a painful thing to go through. With me and Ray, it’s still quite fresh as in we are still waiting for the divorce to come through.

“The last two years of us being together were hard and we barely spoke to each other because we were sad and angry that it wasn’t working and we were both leading separate lives professionally and socially. It was a really hard time.”

Coleen revealed that after making the decision to split, she and Ray have turned into the “friends we should have always been”.

She said: “We are such good friends now, we’re getting on great, we’re making each other laugh again.”

But fellow panellist Anne Diamond was quick to ask Coleen: “But isn’t that a bit dangerous? Are you beginning to find each other attractive again?”

After a pause, Coleen quipped: “Oh, I never thought of that!”

She then said: “No, not at all. It’s made me realise that I’ve always loved him as a friend and the last couple of years, we forgot that.

“We should have just stayed friends but we’ve got a beautiful daughter. In fact, it was Ciara who said, ‘Mum, you need to make a decision because it’s not working’.

“She said, ‘I love you both, I always will, but you’re not in love with each other anymore.'”

But, Coleen joked that now Ciara moans about her parents being good friends.

She said: “She goes: ‘Ugh, my parents are friends – cringe!'”

Coleen said she “loves” the way she and Ray are now because their communication is better.

The star confirmed in February that she and Ray were breaking up, announcing the news in her Mirror column.

“Me and my husband Ray are divorcing,” she said. “There is too much dividing me and Ray. We can’t go back. And my future is going to be very different to the one I’d imagined back then.”

Coleen said she’d “fought with every fibre” in her being to save the marriage but then came to a point where she realised the relationship could not be saved.

She wrote in the column she and Ray are keeping their split amicable, and she’s now looking to the future.
