GMB bosses call doctor on air to help Piers Morgan diagnose cold

He's under the weather

It’s the time of year when it’s easy to catch a cold but that hasn’t stopped Piers Morgan from dragging himself to work.

The usually steely Good Morning Britain presenter complained that he was a “sweaty mess” on the show on Tuesday and that he’s had “difficulty breathing” after contracting two viruses.

He even had Dr Hillary Jones patched in to diagnose him – dramatically asking the medical expert if it was “the end” for him.

Piers, 53, moaned: “Ten days into the cold I’ve come out with these terrible sweats all morning. Is it the expulsion of demons or could it be the beginning of the end?”

Dr Hillary confirmed that he would indeed survive…

The TV doc, 65, explained: “It’s run its course, you’ve been suffering from an upper respiratory tract infection. By soldiering on it probably kept the virus going a little bit. You are over the worst of it though.

“It doesn’t normally last several weeks, but at this time of year it’s not unusual.”

But co-hosts Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins didn’t look too pleased to be sat next to a sniffling Piers this morning.

When he then asked Susanna if she would miss him if he died of his man flu, she responded: “I would be utterly heartbroken.”

Even the GMB team got together to discuss Piers’ sick bug – starting a poll on Twitter to ask if he should stay in bed tomorrow!

At least the star has something to feel chirpy about this week – on Monday, the breakfast show received its highest ratings since launching five years ago.

Piers retweeted the good news.

It’s the broadcaster’s last week in the GMB studio before he takes a two-and-half-week break for Christmas.

It sounds like he is going to need it to shift that stinking cold.

Get well soon, Piers!
