Piers Morgan has been praised by Good Morning Britain fans after he offered to fly an artist who wrongly spent 27 years in jail to the UK for a round of golf.

While behind bars, Valentino began drawing pictures of golf courses, which drew the attention of Golf Digest magazine and led its editors to question his conviction.

Eventually another man confessed to the murder and Valentino was released.

Valentino appeared on Good Morning Britain via video call from New York on Monday and took the opportunity to tell Piers that he was his biggest fan.

“Hey Piers, you know I’m one of your biggest fans,” he said. “You were my favourite guy on The Apprentice. I didn’t know about you before that, but I was able to watch you on CNN.

“I used to watch you all the time, you’re one of the toughest guys on the planet.”

Valentino then said he was determined to meet the presenter one day, at which point Piers offered to make than happen.

“Here’s what we’re going to do,” Piers said. “We’ll fly you over to England and I’ll play a bit of golf with you.”

Valentino started drawing golf courses while he was in prison, after a warden gave him a picture of the Augusta National Golf course in Georgia.
