Eamonn Holmes to replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain

The outspoken host is taking a summer break

It’s going to be a busy summer for Eamonn Holmes. The Irish presenter and his wife Ruth Langsford will be standing in for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughy on This Morning regularly over the summer.

And now it’s been revealed the 58-year-old will also have to set his alarm clock for stints on Good Morning Britain while Piers Morgan enjoys some time off.

Piers announced his departure last week and he isn’t expected to be back until early September.

“It’s my last day tomorrow and I’m going to be completely demob-happy,” he said with glee.

His co-host Susanna Reid is also having a summer break from the show, with Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins acting as replacement hosts for the pair at the start of this week.

Ben Shephard will continue with his usual Thursday and Friday appearances.

Then next week, Eamonn will return to stand in for Piers.

The former Sky Breakfast host was awarded an OBE for his services to broadcasting this year and is often a hit with GMB viewers when he appears.

However, when he appeared on This Morning this week, not everyone was impressed with his style and mocked his choice of suit.

Meanwhile, it is likely Richard Madeley will also cover some of Piers’ shifts over the summer.

The former This Morning legend divided the audience when he appeared earlier this year. Some viewers were delighted to see Richard back on breakfast telly, while others found him tiresome and often compared him to comic character Alan Partridge.

ITV bosses were said to be keen to have him back as he helped boost ratings. However, they denied reports Richard would be given a permanent slot on the show and instead he will continue to be used for holiday cover.

Many are already missing Piers and have taken to Twitter to say it’s going to be a long summer without him.

“These presenters are too nice, I need @piersmorgan back on the panel asap #gmb,” wrote one this week.
